As we reach September, there has been no holiday this summer for our Project Officers! However, this seemed like a useful place for us to stop and take stock of where we are and look at some performance indicators to give an idea of the sheer volume of material that we are working on.

We have now completed the designated cataloguing periods for Llangwm and Penally and are moving into the last few weeks of working with material from Hook. As we finish working with each community, we will remain accessible so that if further questions arise we are there to advise as best we can.

We’ve calculated that we have now identified and catalogued well over 3,000 individual items of material down to the most detailed ‘item’ level of description in accordance with international standards. For the three groups tackled so far, we have written over 60,000 words of text on some 450 pages!

As well as producing searchable electronic Excel spreadsheets of this information for each group we have also completed easily accessible hard copy Word-based catalogues in ring binders so collections can be searched at a glance for key information. Each group can see straight away what they hold without wading through the vast amount of information in the spreadsheets. This was really important to us as we appreciate not everyone is that comfortable with computers and being able to read a catalogue is much easier than a spreadsheet with all those lines and columns!

There is still a great deal to do as we move into autumn, but our work so far is bringing excellent results with tremendous positive feedback.
